Default Platinum mpg worse than others?

Before I buy the '15 Platinum 3.5 Ecoboost I found, I'd like to confirm a suspicion I have about Platinum mpg. It seems to me that since '11 when Ecoboost came out, I've read more threads with Platinum owners complaining about low mpg than any other trims.

The one I found is new, 83 miles on odometer, 3:31 differential, what can I say - it's a Platinum! Build date is 6/19/15, so it shouldn't have the potential timing chain issue according to my research. 4x4, whistle and call it to hook up trailer and come around to pick you up, that kind of truck. My only concern is as I said, it seems I've read more Platinum owners with low, as in 14-16 mpg highway than other (Lariat, XLT, etc.) owners.

Thanks for any input from y'all Platinum boys!

my 15 Platinum 3.5 Ecoboost 3:31 averages 15.2MPG over 7500 miles. I might see 17avg on HWY only trip if I baby it. I have no idea how people see 20MPG on this truck.

oh... and that 15.2 avg is computer reported.. when I do calculations myself its a LOT worse. every time I refuel, computer reports about 2 Gal less fuel consumed than what I actually put in.

other than MPG and few other body related issues... truck is good.

I am averaging 17.2 MPG. Look in my signature and you will see what I have added. Even if the Platinum trucks got 2MPG less than other trucks, my guess is if you can afford a Platinum truck that 200 per year extra on 12K miles per year won't hurt you

Thanks a lot kot! What you report is the kind of Platinum mpg I've been reading about over the years. I've kind of set my base all highway mpg at 18, since that's what my '02 5.4 Supercrew with 3:55 gets. I'd hate to have a new truck get less.

Thanks too, stick. I only care about all highway since I do a lot of 300-500 mile road trips. Yeah, a bit lower mpg is okay for the luxury, but I just want to know if my suspicions about Platinums getting lower mpg.

Lariat 502a 3.5eb 3.55 I got about 14.7mpg and can get about 19.5 on the highway. I think the 14.7 would be better, but I live at about 2000 ft and it drops every time I drive up the hill on my way home. This is from the trip computer and of course before the 35's. Lol now 13 is a good number.

granted... if I drive 55MPH on flat road, i might see 17-18 consistently.. but I am in either stop and go city driving or 75MPH on HWY...

another thing I want to check is my bed cover...it's soft cover and does flap a bit at HWY speeds, so it may cause more drag than hard cover other folks are using.

I also suspect that I would better MPG with 3.35 gears because with 3.31, boost is on most of the time even on HWY cruising.

It's 3.31 gears plus the plat being a pig= bad mpg. I'd skip an Eco with 3.31 unless you drive very leisurely. Otherwise it will engage turbos more.
