I average all in town short trips 15 mpg. I find the truck to be quite good on gas, its my 3rd platinum.

I have 3.5 with 3.31s

Low rpm on highway and thats doing 106km/hr.
I think speed really kills the MPGS but the speed limit around here is 90kms. (55MPH)

Even if the Platinum gets 2mpg worse and you drive 30,000 miles per year, that only amounts to $200-$300 in fuel per year. You're shopping for a $50,000 truck. The fuel cost is 0.6% of that price. This isn't worth your time to even consider.

Good news they offered a 36 gallon gas tank instead of 23 gallon...

what annoys me is not the few extra $$$ in fuel cost. it's the MPG number! and overly optimistic reporting in the dashboard...

J15, right on, I've surely considered that. I just have this crazy thing about thinking 18 mpg all highway doing about 73 like I do is reasonable. All I want to know from Platinum owners is highway mpg and differential ratio. I never thought about 3:31 maybe using turbos more...

Sounds just like the one I'm looking at.

oh... and that 15.2 avg is computer reported.. when I do calculations myself its a LOT worse. every time I refuel, computer reports about 2 Gal less fuel consumed than what I actually put in.

other than MPG and few other body related issues... truck is good.

WTF? How is your mileage so bad with 3.31 gears and the 3.5L ECOBoost? I've got the same setup on my 2015 Lariat SuperCrew and I don't have that problem at all. I get 17.9MPG as the average combined / reported MPG. On the highway, if I reset the trip computer and just get on the road I can see every bit of the 23MPG the EPA estimates say I should get. Granted I have to keep it at 60-65MPH to do that, which isn't what I normally do.

I do not baby my truck. I accelerate like the Millennium leaving the Death Star each and every time I push the gas pedal. I normally drive 5-10MPH over the speed limit. I take turns faster than most cars do (within reason, and I often squeal the tires or break the rear end loose for no reason), with my mileage split between highway and in town driving. I do sit in traffic a lot as well.

My point is, I get what I think is decent fuel mileage considering my driving habits and the fact that I'm in the heaviest configuration of the F150. The only way it would be worse is if I had a few more options like the Platinum has. I can see those being a couple hundred or so pounds more for the massaging seats, cameras, glass roof and all that. A couple hundred or so pounds shouldn't account for that much variance in fuel economy. I'm having a hard time understanding how Platinum owners can report such terrible gas mileage unless all of you weigh 450lbs. yourself.

there is something wrong with either my truck or your computer. I've never seen 17.9AVG even babying it on hwy only.

do you have 18 or 20in wheels?

and I am mostly in the truck alone and no load and not towing..I haul dirtbikes, that's about it.

also, north NJ is hilly terrain

Doing the math manually the numbers are similar. I've got 18" wheels with the Goodyear Wranglers on them at the moment. I do not typically tow anything. However Dallas / Ft. Worth is flat as a pancake.

I recently got rid of the air dam and put on a bull bar. I haven't really looked at my MPG, but I expect it to take a hit. The truck is at the dealer getting a 2" leveling kit put on. Hopefully soon my damn wheel and tire order will arrive. I ordered 20x9" wheels and 33x12.5" Toyo M/Ts. I suspect my MPG is going to drop substantially.
