Default Pine tree sap on paint fix

I had to share my experience last week.

Drove to Yosemite and rented a cabin. The First morning I get up and get in the truck to see there is pine tree sap all over my truck. I was sick! We stayed in the park for four days and the whole time I'm freaking out how I'm going to get the sap off when I get home without a clay bar. I didn't want to use a clay bar on new paint. Previous to my trip, I waxed the car with Meguire's Ultimate liquid wax. This was my third coat in 4 months. Came home and hosed the car off with high spray hose water. To my surprise the sap seemed to bounce off the paint before I used the car wash soap. Wash with soap and dried. Not a speck of tree sap. Great wax I'm thinking! I was amazed!

I work with trees for a living, obviously the wax did you a favor here, but for those who may not have waxed their trucks WD-40 removes tree sap with ease, even if you get it embedded in your arm hair! Lemon oil also works if you prefer the more holistic route.

What's wrong with using clay bar on new paint? That's one of the 1st things I did when I bought my truck new to get all the rail dust and impurities out.

Gas line antifreeze works great too, if it's dried on and crusty.

This is what I use too but I just get the large bottles of Methyl Hydrate from the local hardware store. We get a ton of sap around here so I am always taking it off. It works great. Pour some on a clean rag and wipe gently until it is gone.

This! I have always clayed my new vehicles as soon as i can. The paint on new vehicles is fully cured when they leave the plant.

Rubbing alcohol. Or gas line anti freeze as mentioned previously. That's what we use in the body shop

Rubbing alcohol? Antifreeze? Wd-40? No clay bar? What's wrong with you people? Lol

I would never argue with a body shop guy, you all are professionals, not me. But there's no way I'm putting any of that stuff on my car. I'd Just use a clay bar, it doesn't do anything to new paint vs old paint. It's not like it's a micro abrasive like polish is.

Considering most recommendations are to wax only twice a year, I'd say your 4 coats definitely helped you out! Good on you for having the fortitude to wax that much, but I'd have to think there's diminishing returns at some point
