This is exactally why my back rack from my 15 didn't end up on my 18, I ended up selling it, my bed didn't tear but rather elongated the round holes and bent the crap out of the aluminum around them. I was amazed the damage it caused in 3 months lol. And for what it's worth I had the correct mounting kit with the aluminum washers and rubber spacers.

Saw a lot of posts saying that the aluminum beds are “thin”. Guys they are not. I saw the comparison of thickness between the steel and aluminum and the aluminum beds use thicker metal than the steel. Ford engineers didn’t just change the material, they did their homework. It appears as well they learned from the F150 as well and made the SD’s even thicker.
Aluminum beds seem awesome to me. How often do you see old trucks with beds that have fenders rusted to ****. Nice to know the fords will last much longer.

1.FYI all steel trucks are 5 stars, fords 5 star rating does not come due to aluminum protection but because of steel. in 2015 crew cab f150 scored 5 stars while extended cab scored 4 stars, why is that? because in crew cabs there were 2 (steel) brackets protecting the cab, one in front of the wheel and one behind, the extended cab had only one there fore scored less. in certain accidents when those brackets are missed and a cab get a direct hit, it often tears everything in its path, ripping out the doors and pillars.
