Piece of Aluminum Ripped out of the bed

I've never had a rack on any other truck so I never saw any effects. It's good to know that it happens to other trucks and maybe these pockets aren't designed to do what everyone uses them for.
I had mine on for about 4 months maybe 5000 miles. I have only had the truck for 8 months. Like I said before the dealership is handling it for me which I am thankful. I just want to figure out manufacturers recommendations for mounting accessories. It is my fault for not doing the research prior. Those holes are there for a reason though not just for looks.

Ouch! I have a Rack-it lumber rack that mounts with large clamps. They call them mega clamps. They have a pretty decent amount of service area where they attach (clamp) underneath. I make sure to check them from time to time to make sure they are snug.

Wow....... I have run Back Racks for years and never had one damage a truck from the mounting hardware lol. This is just a good reason not to buy one of these overpriced beer cans as a work truck.

I have to agree. Out on the farm/ranch, we use our trucks as trucks. I think the aluminum body is idiotic. There have already been a few cases of door and bed pillars splitting from forming stresses alone. Now you basically can't bolt anything to the bed. No thanks.

What do you use the rack for and can you run without one?

For those saying the truck beds should be steel, any proof that the above wouldn't have happened in a steel bed?
People are so quick to think they know what they are talking about when we have almost NO FACTS
Now, it might be that the aluminum beds are going to fail when used in a normal truck manor, but I haven't read anything convincing of that theory.

Would running F150's and other brand trucks for over 10 years with Backracks ( that all mount the exact same way) and never having one crack anything count lol. It really shouldn't even be stressed at the hole opening beyond tightening the nut down on it. The fact it happened to one truck..... well whatever. But Ford's reply of being don't mount anything on the bed because they aren't designed for it..... no thanks.

then don't ride in an airplane K toots.
I just got off the phone with the service dept at the dealership. They are fixing the hole but the service manager recommended that I do not put a back rack back in the truck. According to him the truck is not designed to have anything like that installed. I would like to talk to someone with Ford Service about this issue. Hopefully they see this on here. If not, anyone have a contact at Chevy, I think I have an idea for their next commercial.
so I would tell the rack maker they owe you for the repair and they need to redesign their mounting.
We had headache racks on two of our fleet GMC pick ups and the mounting area in the beds cracked on both of them. They actually had to put big fender washers underneath the mounting flanges to keep them from cracking out a second time. Not just a Ford thing, those racks vibrate and cause problems for steel OR aluminium.
