Default Phaser issue 😓

Hello my fellow ford enthusiast 👋🙂 I am a newbie to this site (apologies for not joining sooner) my pride n joy 2017 F150 which I care for probably more than my girlfriend has all of a sudden got phaser problems😭 I love my truck and I look after it I also have the service package so my services are all done before due date with synthetic oil at a ford establishment, now it seems I have this phaser problem and I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to wtf this is...? Why this has occurred and will this problem reoccur??? Also my 3 yrs warranty will expire in June if this happens after this date is it still covered? Many questions I'm sorry but I'm freaking out, not expecting this kinda **** to happen to my well loved pride n joy, any advice would really be appreciated, thankyou...

There are LOADS of threads about this, but basically,

On a cold soak start, oil does not reach the phasers fast enough which causes a rough start for the first few seconds.
Overtime it will just get worse, and louder.
There is no "fix" as of yet, even though this has been happening for like 8 years now.

Ford did release an updated phaser like 2 months ago, which I have gotten on my phaser repair last week.
It does fix the obnoxious loud diesel like sound when starting up, but apparently there is a new subtle sound within 5 mins of a start up with the update phasers(Though it is unconfirmed. I have it, and another user has it. Different sounds, but it came after the "fix").

Also, this is covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty, not the 3 year basic warranty.. so your fine with that part.
Ford also stated this issue does not effect long term usability, but who knows.

How many miles on your truck, OP? And your phaser (ratcheting) noise is at start-up, correct? If just on cold deceleration, then it's 'normal'. As far as the reason for the cold-start ratcheting, it's reportedly a hard plastic pin that breaks. And the reason that plastic pin breaks is lack of lubrication at start-up. All of that makes sense to me, but who knows if there's something else at play. Finally, on the longevity issue, if there's no CEL, meaning the broken plastic pin landed in a 'safe' place, not affecting the range of timing changes programmed in the ECU, then it suposedly it's not detrimental to the engine. THAT also sounds true to me .

My truck only has 13K miles now, and so far no phaser issues. Since I'm using M1 0/30 oil, which has better lubrication when engine is cold (at any temperature), hopefully my truck will not see that issue, but if there's an oil restriction somewhere, due to debris, or machining defects, it'd eventually happen too. Guess we'll have to wait and see .

Default Phaser issue

Thanks guys for your feedback 👍😉 I've done approximately 43000 kms, the 5 year warranty thing has definitely put my mind at ease though, thanks. I have another 2 yrs at least if it continues I might have to trade er in😓...
