Pedal Bike Trailer Hitch
#13
I went through this last summer. I ended up with the Thule T2 Pro XT. Have taken a few 4 hour drives to some of the islands near here to ride with zero issues. Bikes are mounted or dismounted in 2 minutes. Absolutely love it.
I got lucky and caught it on sale and had a 20% coupon.

What kind of bikes? Just 2? budget? I've had everything from cheap trunk racks under 100 bucks to 500$+ tray racks in a hitch. For the money there are some really nice ones listed above, if you want to spend that much.
Things to look for, rubber bungee type lock downs or ratchet style, i'll take ratchet every time. Last longer, at least in my experience. Then depending on the bike type you'll want to decide what type of rack you want. I never had a problem with racks that hold your bikes by the top bar and then hold the seat post. Tye move a little more and might rub the bike next to it some, but that never caused me any problems. But those with 2K road bikes might not like a rub mark on their bike.
Do you want to be able to lock your bike on the rack? lock the rack on the truck?
You can probably pick up a really nice used one for 100-200 bucks that is a tray style rack with lockable bikes and hitch lock. My current one is a Thule, and I love it. Easy to use and bikes load and unload in no time.

I bought this from Walmarts. Cheap and easy to use I haven't had a problem with it all in the last 4 years. Carry four bikes - 3 full size MTB and a kids - all over the East coast and its been great. $150 ish.

Two reasons why I like the tray-style carrier I suggested in my post.

I also use a tray style now, but had the other for years. bike type doe make a difference in what type of carrier works.

Kurt Sherpa 2 is the rack I currently use with my car and it’s the best rack for the money in my opinion. Rock solid, doesn’t contact the frame and folds up when not in use. I think I paid just under $400 on a sale and you can get them for less used.

I like my Swagman tray style.
