Backing in a spot is the way to go. That being said, the 360 degree camera is great for parking. I can see the lines on all sides. It is nice because I can make sure my truck is all the way in the spot. I have come back to someone parked in front of me and the blind spot warning is great for backing out of a spot.

The front camera is very useful for parking in the garage. My wife's car is in body shop for accident, (not her fault), so we have been sharing my truck for the past 10 days and she can now park in the garage first time with the 360 cameras.

I just find the BFT (Big Friggun Truck) parking area in the lot. I have a supercrew with a 6 1/2 ft bed, so mines even longer, and has a longer wheel base. BFT parking usually farther out in the lot were no one else is parking, and it'll have other big trucks, some nicer sports cars, and maybe a luxury car or 2.

Out that far you can usually pull through a spot, and no one will care if you take up more than one spot or not. (my truck is longer than most parking spaces)

If I can't pull through, then I back into a spot. These long trucks tend to maneuver easier in reverse. I've gotten really good at backing in using only the side mirrors. If it's a really tight spot, I may have the wife guide my in as to how far I can come back.

The problem is...
NOT ALL SPOTS ARE THE SAME!!

I go to one store and the truck fits with room on either side and completely in spot front to back. (SCrew w/ 6.5' bed 157WB)

Another store, wheels are almost on lines on BOTH sides, and about 2' too long.
(No that wasn't the "compact car parking" it was the size of EVERY spot at the grocery store.

For parking lots with FULL SIZE spots, I find it not bad to park. I'm certainly cautious, as I'm not used to it yet, but the "overhead 360 view" is really nice for those who have it.
The back up camera, I just can't seem to get... I just look over my shoulder the "old fashioned" way to go where I need to go. The camera is nice for getting close to the wall or whatever, but I can't seem to "guide it back" with that thing. That's going to take some practice.

I need to get the nerve up to try that parallel park gizmo though. That sounds cool, though I've not had an issue doing it the "old fashioned way", it's pretty cool if it works... others say it does, so one of these days I'll get up the nerve to try it!

Kind of like the "adaptive cruise control"... mine seems to work just fine, none of the issues others have reported. But there are some situations I just can't help myself from taking over!

I have the self park and it scares me to death. We don't have parallel parking here in town so didn't hurt my feelings and covered up the sensors with my flares

It does take time to get used to backing up without looking over your shoulder. I learned to do that in a Hmmvv in the Marines. There are no back windows in those things, at least not the gun trucks. They are ridiculously wide too. try backing one of them into a spot on a ship so tight you have to climb out the turret because you can't open the doors wide enough to get out.

An old truck driver told me to visualize where your hips are in relation to the truck. Your hips are your center of balance.
