Overheating Question
Heyy,
Im new obviously, like the forum will take a look around for sure!
I have a question in regards to my 2016 f150 5.0. Today I was sitting in line st the car wash, it was about 11 C out and after about 15 minutes of sitting my engine temp gauge starts to rise. It gets to the point where it’s totally maxed out and at the worst my overheating chime comes on, so I turn the truck off and wait 5 minutes then back on and it cools itself down to about normal then after few minutes it rises again. All at idle, when I’m driving there’s no issues at all or if I’m parked idling for short periods of time there’s no issues either only when I’m sitting in long line ups idling for longer periods, is this normal?
I have had has this happen before but it was in dead of summer and I had my ac on so I thought was normal.
I really appreciate the replies in advance, also I’ve checked my coolant and it’s full and in good shape.
Edit: I just noticed my electric fan 1 and 3 50 amp fuses are blown. I tried moved the fans by hand to see if they had any resistance and they were fine. What else can I try?

If its under warranty I would start by going to the stealership. Otherwise since you say you've checked your coolant level I would then make sure there isn't a build up of debris blocking air flow across your radiator (leaves, feathers, cotton wood, grass clippings etc) Then I would under normal conditions check to see if system gets to proper pressure best method would be to pressure test the system and cap but if you don't have a tester you can just pop the hood after a drive when its at operating temp and squeeze the rubber hoses. They should be firm, if not your cap has likely failed. Then I would make sure that your cooling fans are operating as they should. To do that just watch your gauge and when temps are high (doesn't have to be overheating as they will cycle on and off to maintain temp under normal circumstances but if overheating they should definitely be on) just pop the hood to see if the fans are on or not. Might also be wise to check the active grille shutters to see if they open when hot. If everything appears to be functioning properly but still having issues I would then try to soak the radiator with a water hose when trucks hot to watch and see if only some areas evaporate off faster than the rest (that would indicate a clogged radiator internally) Lastly if still no luck it might be a failed/ failing thermostat or water pump? As a side note, if your driving and its unsafe to pull off or whatever to allow the engine to cool down, turn off accessories to lighten the load such as the A/C compressor and radio and anything else not vital. Roll your windows down and crank the heat up to max (not defrost cause that turns the compressor back on) I would really try to limit how much you overheat your engine as my brother has excessively overheated an engine before and it warped the block/ heads and they wouldn't seal. Head gasket had a bad leak and milkshaked the oil. Also don't get the bright idea to cool your engine down directly with cool water cause that's kinda like the same thing as clearing the ice off your windshield with boiling water (saw it at a gas station once) Best of luck with this.
He said his electric fan 1 & 3 fuses are blown. I would start there first if not under warranty (before all the other things listed) and determine why the fuses blew, repair the fan issue, and replace them

is it possible for the relays to cuz the fuses to blow? I checked the wiring and fan blades, no visible damage, no noise or notable resistance from the fans themselves.
Replace the fuses and start checking through the wiring. Sounds like you may have already done that. Going to have to find the reason the fuses are blowing. If under warranty, let them figure it out.
Sounds an awful lot like the overheating is just due to there being NO fans running when you needed them.
