Default Oil pressure without engine running

I have a ‘18 lariat 3.5 EcoBoost. Normally start it with the remote to allow warmup. If I use the start button, I just press the brake and then start it.
in both of these instances, the engine is running before the IPC is booted up. Yesterday I was cleaning the dash and hit the start button which turned everything on without the engine running. I noticed it was showing oil pressure. I know it is just basically a switch(on-off) and doesn’t actually read variable pressure, so I thought the switch might be faulty. I disconnected the switch and pressure went to 0. Plugged the sensor back up and it stayed at 0. Started the engine, got a low oil pressure warning for about 10 seconds, then gauge back to a normal reading and still reads pressure without the engine running. Question is this normal and in the event of oil pressure loss will the gauge detect it. Wanting to know before my visit to the dealer.

Where are you getting an oil pressure reading from? Didn't know they introduced that to the dash panel? No oil pressure in a 2016 Lariat.
I have to trust that you didn't misread since you actually went under the hood, found and disconnected the oil sending unit. LOL

FYI, the oil pressure is a variable signal from the sending unit, which is how there is a gauge and not just a dummy light. I did also notice this on my Dads 2018 where as my 2019 falls to 0 when Auto Start/stop active. I believe the 2018 and possible earlier models with auto start/stop store the last reading and display it even when off...not sure why though.

I still don't get where this oil pressure gauge suddenly became a variable reading gauge. Ford hasn't had a true oil pressure gauge in years. Many, many discussions about the dummy gauge that most manufacturers use. It just indicates pressure, not how much.

From the MY2016 WSM:

Low Oil Pressure

NOTE: If equipped with Start-Stop and the Start-Stop feature shuts the engine off, the engine oil pressure gauge drops to zero. This is normal operation.

The IPC uses the oil pressure warning indicator request and engine rpm data to control the low oil pressure indicator. The engine oil pressure switch is hardwired to the PCM. The PCM provides the oil pressure warning indicator request and the engine rpm data to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM provides the oil pressure warning indicator request and engine rpm data to the IPC over the HS-CAN3. The IPC requires engine rpm above 400 rpm before the message center displays the low oil pressure RTT.

Not a gauge. It’s a mechanical idiot light.

What's the gage in the top left of your cluster? It's still there in the 2019's

My 2020 has a gauge that changes as it warms up and rpm changes. Is this fake like the exhaust noise?
