Curious question for the OP, how many miles on your 2020 and how did the filter look when removed, I have 50k miles and thinking of just replacing the fluid in the pan instead of a drop and filter at this point.

69K miles. I bought it w/ 67K and plan on towing a small camper (4000#, +/-) around this summer, so based on conservative opinions here I decided to go ahead and replace both filter and fluid. I have no idea at all how the original owner drove it.
On winter mornings I was getting very slight hard shifts when cold, between 3rd and 4th, but only till the truck warmed up. I didn't have the display on transmission temp, but after 15 minutes or so of easy driving the 3-4 shifts were fine. It's warmed since then, but FWIW, it shifts smoother now after the fluid/filter change, right out of my drive.
Oil looked darker than new, but not black or scary. Filter looked fine.

Good info, I appreciate the reply, thank you!
I change engine oil religiously pre manufactures recommendations. Reading too much on this site had me changing differential and transfer case fluids prematurely, all of it looked like new, I'm sure others may drive different and experience more wear.
I had to burn some Ford points before they expire so have the tranny filter and fluid, at this point I'm just going to suck oil out and refill, then do it again in 10-20K miles.
The only hard shift I have is an occasional 4-3 and it depends on the throttle and terrain.

Thanks again.

In general, while owner forums have been lots and lots of help, I often find myself more paranoid than may be warranted. Bringing to mind "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Overall though I think I'm ahead of the disasters. At least I like to think I am.
I very much appreciate those on this and the other forums who spend lots more time on the vehicles and especially that take the time to share.

To you long timers - ( not 'old' timers ) - THANKS!!
