Default Oil Level Indicator - % chart?

Hi All -

New owner and member here, I know there are a few "Oil Level Indicator" threads but I couldn't find one specific to my question so I wanted to make a post (if it is a repost I apologize).

For the Oil Level Indicator, it provides % of oil left. Is there a chart or 'cheat sheet' to say how much oil loss equates to the percentage? i.e: at 90% you can add .25 qt., at 75% you can add .5 qt.?

Just curious! I check the digital gauge everyday so having that information would be useful.

Thanks all!

Are you talking about the oil life indicator? That shows you the % of oil life left in regards to when you should change it not you have lost a certain % and need to fill

It is the percent of "Life" left in the oil, not quantity.

Ah - gotcha. Well I went about that all wrong

I have an electronic monitor in my BMW that measures quantity and made the [wrong] assumption it was quantity in the truck as well.

Thank you for the clarification... I guess now I have to get a step ladder and actually get under the hood. Sucks only being 5'10 checking the oil in this behemoth.

Thanks all! We can close this thread

If I hadn't found this forum I probably wouldn't have known there was an oil life monitor. :-)
