On 15-18 F150's with a powered rear slider one can tap a USB converter into the the 12v power to switch. Trim pieces come of fairly easily. Then it is your choice of device.

FYI the OEM dashcam is meant for linking to the OEM telematics stuff. The rear facing cam isn't meant to monitor traffic behind you, it's meant to monitor YOU, the driver. It's made for fleet customers, to catch folks driving distracted, etc. and to look back and see what happened in the event of a collision. FWIW that information/video is hugely invaluable when versions contradict....video is indisputable.

I've used video in a similar fashion to shut down situations where the other driver was clearly lying and video proved it......but without video you get into credibility battles. NOT what anyone wants to deal with.

Thanks for the info, could you expand a bit on where you tap and behind which trim you did it? I hate wires running everywhere.

Are you drawing power from the fuse box or cigarette lighter?

Thats a big chunk of change for a dash cam, i would take that money and go buy one from a store without giving ford their cut. Dashcams are evolving constantly and im sure $400.00 can get you a really nice set up

It should be one of the first things any driver does to their vehicle imo. Take a quick look at all the dash cam videos on youtube and you'll be running out to get one.

What fuse did you tap into? Always on if you get bumped or shuts off with the truck?

I used one that shuts off with the truck. I grabbed an add a fuse from the auto parts store.

With the A129 there is supposed to be new harness (separate purchase) for keeping power while the engine is off so you can view any issues when the truck is parked. I didn't go down that road. Seemed like more hassle than it was worth. Not even sure if they have it out of production yet. If your interested check out the dash cam talk link that I posted earlier. That is where I got all my information from.
