Default ODBII Code Reader - Worth it?

Hi,

I just saw a WiFi OBD2 Smart Car Diagnostic Scanner/Code Reader for iPhone or Android on sale on Amazon for 20 bucks.

Amazon.com: Etekcity WiFi OBD2 Smart Car Diagnostic Scanner/Code Reader (Android / iOS): Automotive Amazon.com: Etekcity WiFi OBD2 Smart Car Diagnostic Scanner/Code Reader (Android / iOS): Automotive

Looks like a good deal but is it worth it. Has anybody used one with a 2015/16 F150?

I guess it would save a diagnostic trip to the dealer if the check engine light comes on. Will a dealer schedule maintenance if you give them a code over the phone?

Thanks,

ft.

I would say it's worth it if all you want to do is read codes and clear them.

If you want to do data logging, and control advanced PID's, you'll need something more expensive unfortunately.

Ford makes it pretty difficult to access everything without their VCM/IDS subscriptions...and they're extremely expensive.

^ I agree

Another thing to add is that if the Ford dealership can't reproduce the code themselves I don't think they initiate any work. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. If you're still under warranty, I would leave it alone...just bring it in if its throwing a code.
