I don't know about the current generation trucks but my '13 you just hit the power button on the volume **** and the radio plays for 15mins or so but you never have to put the key in or anything.

I verified on my 2016 Platinum that if you press the volume **** it will turn on only the radio and sync screen. It stays on for quite a while. At least 10 minutes or so. I didn't stay long enough to see when it turns off. If you want to power the seats, parking lights and windows double press the start button.

It must be a sync 3 feature. I just tried it on my 2015 Platinum, and the radio (or sync screen) do not turn on.
