No reverse lights

Let me know if that works as well. My right rear lens had standing water in it where the water level in the clear lens parts was half an inch away submerging the reverse socket.

Check on this if your reverse lights continue to be inop.

Using the jumper speeds up the process. Leaving the battery disconnected for ???? how long will allow the electronics to use up and drain any stored energy. A few days is most likely enough.Time to look elsewhere.
