The Reverse Lamps are controlled and powered by the BCM (Body Control Module) on their own circuit. I'm going to assume you have already checked the bulbs (That would have been your first step). The circuit is protected from overcurrent by a FET (Field Effect Transistor) circuit that shuts the circuit off if an overcurrent occurs. The FET auto-resets on the next ignition cycle (Off/On) until it trips enough times that the BCM sets a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) and shuts the circuit off until the problem is fixed and the DTC is cleared. FORScan or a diagnostic scan tool must be used to scan for the DTCs. An OBDII code reader will not see DTCs from the BCM.

If that is not the issue, then it will be a wiring issue. The Reverse Lamp circuit passes through electrical connectors C316 and C405. C316 is located overtop of the driver side wheelwell. Rodents love to get in here and chew on the wire insulation so a good visual of this area is needed.

Connector C405 is at the back of the truck next to the spare tire. This connector can leak water at times which causes problems. You need to unlatch the connector and visually inspect the terminals for corrosion or other damage.

You also need to check the ground wires to make sure they are not damaged. Since your other rear lights are working (since you didn't say otherwise) it is unlikely the ground wires but they do run to a harness splice before actually being attached to ground at the back of the truck.

Hint - When you post you need to provide your truck information such as halogen lights or LEDs, trim level, option level, etc. so we know what features your truck has.

I'm having a similar issue, however my reverse lights are always on (except when the truck is off). I have a 2018 3.5L and have not been able to find much. The issue seems to have started several weeks ago. I was on vacation last week and when I got back my truck would not start. Once it was jumped, I asked my wife if the reverse lights were on and they were not (I pulled out of my garage as I was already backed in). However, when I put my truck in reverse and back in drive the reverse lights have been on ever since? Is this a connection issue or is there a switch? TIA!
