I've had my 2019 for three years and past the base warranty, into the extended. The transfer case switch on my dash works fine to switch 2WD to 4WD, however there are no lights within the switch, which makes it hard to see at night or low light. Shame on me for not paying attention to this earlier in my ownership where I could have had it replaced, and now I'm not sure if it's covered under Ford extended or not. Can anyone confirm if the lighting is built into this switch or if it's somewhere else I need to look?
I've researched the part to this part number - FL3Z-14B166-BA.
I'm making an assumption that the light is built into the switch and not a separate light behind the switch in the dash. Dealer wants to charge for diagnosis (really annoying), and since I can find the OEM part it would be cheaper for me to just replace it myself since I should be able to pop it out of the dash, unplug the old, plug in the new. Please tell me if I'm off base on any of my assumptions. I believe all the white lettering in the image below should light up if it's consistent with the rest of the dash board.
Thanks for the prompt replies - I appreciate the input. Seems odd to me that only this switch would not have backlight considering even the brake controller below it has a back light. I understand the drive status displays in the main cluster, however so do many other things like fog lights, cruise control, etc. Lighting the switch would just be consistent. One less thing to be concerned with.
I did find this image on the web - I just cut out the switch from the entire dash photo/image. Looks OEM but maybe not.
I've had 2 FX4 F150s and this switch did not light up on either of them. The selections (2H, 4H, 4L, PULL) do light up. The switch really ought to light up, like all the other controls.
