Default Nitto Terra Grapplers question

I am a new owner of a 2015 Lariat Fx4 with 3.5L ecoboost. It still has the factory goodyears on it and they are close to needing replacement.

After having the Nitto Trail Grapplers on my last truck, I know I am a big fan of Nitto, but the Trail Grappler is a little too aggressive/loud for my current needs. I am looking for a way to give the truck a slightly more aggressive look but still take advantage of the great gas mileage that the ecoboost offers, since 98% of my driving is on-road.

I have discovered that the Terra Grappler G2 in 305/55r20 XL tire only weighs 50 lbs and I was hoping that with the stock wheels, I could maintain close to my current mpg. Can anyone with experience speak to whether this is possible, or am I still going to lose 2-3 mpg with this tire? Any pics of someone with this setup would be great as well. Thank you for any advice!

I think the weight and width will still hurt your mpg’s. If you want to keep your mpg’s, you should probably go with the Nitto in the 275/60.

I am on the second set on my 04 F150 now, I had the first set installed Oct 2015, had to put new ones on about 2 months ago. Tread wore down real quick. Overall, I loved them because of the look and the fact that there was no road noise from them but they did wear down quicker that I thought they would. As far as gas mileage, honestly, I really don't pay much attention to it as long as I enjoy what I am driving and it is running well. Good luck on your search, hopefully someone with this gen of truck has them and can help you out more.

Agree. The 305 is a pretty wide tire. I'm debating between the 275/65 or 275/60 on my Platinum. I think the 275/65 weighs close to 60 lbs.

I had 305/55/20 Toyo son my truck, loved the look but a little load and heavy, I went this time with a 275/65/20 KO2, quite and you can feel the difference, I do miss the wider stance but love the tire!

Was the gas mileage noticibly better with either tire?

I dont know where you live but my wife had terra grapplers on her 2011 grand cherokee, while they wore great (after 30k they looked brand new), we moved to a location with a real winter and they were HORRIBLE in snow. Literally ice skates. Discount tire said they had alot of complaints about winter traction with them. Fortunately we were able to swap them out under the prorated treadlife warranty.

Bringing back an old thread.....

I am looking at these tires for my truck and just wanted to get some more people's opinions about them. They are so much cheaper than the Toyo MTs. On my previous 2004 F150 I ran the Toyos....but Its just hard to swallow this huge price difference between the two tires. Was just looking to see some more opinions about the life of these tires. Seems like a lot of people here go for the Ridge Grappler if they pick a Nitto tire.

I have had the original Terra Grappler and now the G2, both in the 275/60. They both rode very similar, but the G2 seems louder than I remember the original. (not bad, but not as quiet as the BFG)

I actually returned my G2 today to Discount and went with the 275/60 in the BFG.

Anything MT is going to suck for mileage so avoid that. Im on 2 sets of terra grapplers and love them because they look aggressive and ride pretty good for that type of tire. The new version Terra grappler g2's come with an actual mileage warranty so that should be what youre after. As said before in here, avoid 305's if you dont want to give up a bit of milage and ride comfort. its a wide *** tire.
