New or Used?
So I finally have decided after a LOT of thought and research. When I can replace my current POS (Which I am SURE many here are aware of and sick of it as much as I am) I am going to get a Platinum F150 and reuse everything that I have on my current truck, the Bedrug, Topper, floor liners, Wheels, Powerstops, mud flaps, etc. I had tossed around the idea of a Used Superduty, but since it would be my daily driver and I dont need a Superduty at this time, I decided the F150 Plat is going to work out just fine.
So I can either order one exactly how I want it, since I have to wait 60 days for the settlement to go through, or buy a used one. I found a 17 701a, with 4WD and rattle roof, for a decent price, but the B2B warranty is gone, but the price is right and pretty sure I can put a deposit down for them to hold it.
I'm pretty sure I would like the Marsala interior, but have not actually seen it in person. That is my only hold out beside giving one a test drive to verify the seat comfort as my 16 Lariat seat was pretty uncomfortable after a while that I didn't catch on the test drive.
The difference between the two per month is roughly $100. Used rates are higher than new rates, which adds to the cost too. The difference between the two is roughly $10k, but the used is 4WD and what I would order is 2WD, the used a 5.0 the new 3.5 Max Tow. I would order the 5.0 but would have to order the 36 gallon tank separate and not get the beefed up hitch and suspension, and the new would also NOT have the rattle roof(moonroof).
So thoughts on this would be appreciated. I have to look around to see if there is a Platinum nearby to try out before I order, and the used one is 2 1/2 hours away from here, but available through my dealers network.

Considering the problems you've had with your current truck, there's no way I'd buy used... you could be buying someone else's problem. Buy new so you have the full warranty and lemon law protection, in case your experiences repeat themselves.
id go new and get exactly what you want. going through the same thing right now of trying to find a truck on the lot how i want and not having much luck. im not in a hurry, so i will most likely be ordering.
That's what I'm thinking as well. I don't have to make a final decision until Monday to get the order in, but need to soon before 2019 orders go live, and that would delay delivery to September. Going to review that pricing thread and see how good the numbers are that I got. Wondering if I could do better on an in stock one than ordering, but then it is at least 60 days before I can pull the trigger. Of course incentives might be better in 60 days than they are now.
I can get everything in a Lariat except the seats, so going to see how they are, and compare the costs as the Lariat might be a little less due to better incentives, but doesn't have that Platinum look either.

I did a Build and Price comparison between Lariat and Platinum, 502a with the packages that are standard in 701a, and selected the Special Edition package to make it unique like a Platinum. Difference is $1000 5.0 and $300 3.5EB.
Choosing the EB over the 5.0 only because of Max Tow upgrades that you can't get with the 5.0. However, until I drive each, I will leave the 5.0 option open, the difference is $485 between them.
Debating between Lariat and Platinum, upgraded Leather and Multicontour seats, and real wood trim vs Standard leather seats and plastic trim. Guess seeing one in person will be the deciding factor, but like the current one, the decision to go big or go home was all because I want a nice truck for the next 10 years, and while I really like everything the Lariat has, I did have issue with the seat being uncomfortable after 30 minutes of driving and had to add some padding to make it work. It is comfortable now, but if a Plat seat is comfortable without adding padding, then all the better.
Last time I ordered something from Ford was a 2013 Fusion Hybrid titanium to replace a defective 2013 Fusion Hybrid SEL. The one I ordered was perfect in every way, and would still have it if my wife wanted it, but she didn't like it as much as I did and she got a Focus. I wound up having to trade it in for the 14 F150 because of continuing back issues I found I could not sit in a car for more than 20 minutes without excruciating pain in my legs. I am hoping the trend continues that ordering a higher end replacement for a defective one will give me a good long lasting truck.
Now to do some math after reading the invoice thread.

Order what you want or have the dealer do a search. If you go used, get them to make the truck CPO which takes it to 7 year 100K powertrain and 12 month 12k b2b warranty . With your luck though, new all the way.

I agree with the majority here. I have a hard time trusting people and especially dealerships. You don't exactly know what you are getting with a used truck. Sounds like you did your research but Ill go into how I did mine. I spent approx. 4 months trying to find a truck in my area that I wanted. They weren't able to meet my price point so I was able to find comparable trucks around the country. I had the dealerships that were out of state, send me their quotes which I used to price match at my local dealership. I was pretty adamant about using the local dealership because they have a lifetime powertrain warranty. I know a few dealerships around here do this (Orlando), but you should definitely check your area and see if anyone provides that. Good luck in your endeavor.
Never buy a used truck if you plan on keeping it for a while. Too many people work on their own trucks, tune them and F' them up in ways you don't get to find out about until it's too late. Buy new and get what you want.
My father-in-law, may he rest in peace, and I disagreed on this. I only buy new, then drive till the wheels fall off. He bought used, then traded for another one when he reached 60,000 miles. He said that even if the vehicle was abused by the first owner, the problems shouldn't become evident before 60,000 miles. So, if he bought a vehicle with 30,000 miles on the odometer, he only got another 30,000 miles out of it. I would drive my new car till it had 120,000 miles or more. I could never get him to understand that buying 4 or 5 used vehicles in the same time that I only bought 1, even paying the new car depreciation, cost him more money in the long run.
