New Truck!!
Just traded in our '15 Lariat SC LWB for a '17 Platinum SC SWB!!
(Not the best images ...)
My reasoning to make the move was solely to go from a LWB to the SWB model. Had I an inkling of how much of a PITA the extra length would be in our neighborhood and local (urban) area, I would have been smarter and gotten a SWB from the beginning. If I had, I would have not even been looking for a new vehicle!! Loved our Ruby Red '15!! Absolutely nothing "wrong" with our '15 - in fact it has been probably the most trouble free, and well built, vehicle I've ever had. If anyone is looking for a used, loaded, '15 Lariat LWB SC in Ruby Red ... call Lakewood Ford in Tacoma and ask for mine!! It's in perfect running order!!
The tipping point was a recent visit to a Jack In The Box where as I came around a corner after ordering, I looked in the mirror and noticed I was less than 6 inches from a pole wiping out the entire side of our LWB truck!! After a couple of maneuvers, much to the consternation of the idiot behind me, I was able to negotiate the tight turn. (Yeah, I know ... don't eat at Jack's!! :-) ) Although pure white is not one of my favorite colors, the pearl coat is really pretty and I think I'll learn to like it.
Since there's "free" money to be had, plus an email I received with a double size military rebate ($1,000 vs $500, for the month of November), it seemed like the finances would work well. They gave me a very good price on our '15 and we walked away feeling like we got the best deal possible. (And, yes, all vehicle purchases have a varying level of being screwed ... but, I'm old enough to remember times when it was far more painful than this go around!!)
The updates between the '15 and the '17 seem to be mostly subtle. I know the 10-speed vs the 6-speed AT is a 'big" deal, but in just driving around I really cannot tell a difference (our 6-speed was as smooth as glass, so it may be a tough act to follow). Sync 3 IS a huge upgrade!! Not so sure if I like the Stop/Start "feature", but I know there's a fix in Forscan that makes it all good!!
As part of my deal, they threw in a drop in bed liner and a flip top cover, and the only other "mods" I'm planning to to use Forscan to setup "Bambi" lights and install the magic Hill Descent Control switch!!
Cheers!!

Nice looking machine! I think I would add rear wheel well liners. The wells would look good blacked out, and you get some protection from flying rocks and debris.

I'm a former Minuteman 3 missile guy myself, GFAFB, but anyhow I just traded my 15XLT 3.5 ECO 157" SCREW for a 2017 Platinum 3.5 ECO with the 10 speed, 157" SCREW, 701 package, and it's one heck of an upgrade over the XLT. I need the long bed for camping and fishing. To me, under light load, the 6-speed tuning had too many flat spots, particularly at low speed. It's not an issue with the 10 speed. Enjoy the new ride.

Totally understand the advantages of a LWB. But, last night I was able to do a U-turn on a highway with the SWB that I would have never been able to do with the old LWB model!!
Cheers!
