ETA for new truck is 3/19, time to get serious about selling/trading the 2008. CarMax is an option. When they give you a offer is that it or can you counter-offer?

Fyi, my Ford dealership said they would match the price Carmax offers for my vehicle I need to trade in....I really cannot stand Carmax but I will go in for the free assessment and take it with me to my Ford dealership and trade in my old car with them...might wanna see if ur dealership will do this....
I once took my jeep to Carmax for a quote, they only quoted "auction" price. At least with the dealer in TX, you get sales tax off your trade. I would go with the dealer or sale it on your own.
My experience is Carmax gives you a take it or leave it number and won't negotiate.
This has been my experience as well. However, it is a very, very easy way to unload a vehicle. I've sold a couple of cars to them and usually at least get a price from them before heading to the dealer to trade a vehicle in.

For what it's worth Carmax offered me $4500 for my 05 Scab FX4 with 180k miles. I sold it for almost double that private party a week later. If your willing to put in the effort to clean it up and deal with craigslist yahoos you should be able to easily get a few grand more than Carmax.

Carmax doesn't negotiate on what the offer you for your vehicle, but like others have said... It's easy. I had a price I was willing to take, and they hit it. I walked in, and out... Was done in under two hours. Sure beats dealing with tire kickers, and Nigearian Barristers willing to over pay you.
