Default Need some help with potential purchase

I’m looking for my next f150. Prices are crazy in my area which sucks. But I’m looking at a 1 owner 16 xlt 302a fx4 super cab 3.5 49000 miles for $28500 or a CPO 18 stx 2.7 26000miles for $29,900. What would you guys choose? I love the 3.5 (never owned one) being a powerhouse that it is and the xlt model has heated seats and such which is nice but not required. It is also 10k miles from the end of the factory power train warranty (so approximately another year for me). The 2.7 is an stx so a lower package and comes with the 2.7 which seems like people have good things to say about and it’s a low mile CPO vehicle so the warranty gets extended out a few years. What route would you guys go?

Speaking strictly to the trucks you listed and a a roughly $1k price difference (I do not know market enough to speak to their specific prices)...I would take the STX. I believe it will have the 8" touch screen and sync 3, yes? It's newer. It has 20k fewer miles.

However, you need to be aware that almost all of the 2.7 trucks are built a little lighter duty and have a 400 lbs lower GVWR and thus 400 lbs lower payload rating. This becomes an issue for moderate or above towing, towing with a family/gear in the truck, or heavy hauling.

If you are considering a 2.7 truck (I think you should, it's a great engine) just make sure you aren't going to miss that extra payload capacity. Look into it. If that doesn't hold you back, me, it'd be the STX of those two

Which axle does each one have?
What size gas tank?
Is either saddled with a sunroof?

I don’t haul much. Right now it’s just me and the girlfriend. We have a 1500lb pop up camper and a 5x8 utility trailer. I can’t find the specs on the 16 but the stx comes with whatever the standard capacity gas tank is, 3.55 rear axle and no sunroof on either

The 2018 2.7L gets dual injection and ten speed trans. It makes nearly the same power as the 2016 3.5L with just DI and six speed trans. It also gets pretty good mileage.

On used, personally I like the cpo warranty. Both are good trucks, my 10 speed can be a bit cluncky at times. Buy the one that makes you happy when you drive it, life's too short

Have you driven them?

Get the one you enjoyed the most.

For me, I'd take the stx... 2 model year newer, 23k less miles, CPO warranty...for an extra grand.
THAT SAID, as others have mentioned, buy what makes u happy. "We" will not be driving it. If you like the extra luxury of the 302A package, really have your heart set on the 3.5L.... get that one. Both are nice trucks, and both would make me happy... Drive both... which one gives you a bigger smile.....

STX with CPO if your test drives are equal.

I'm assuming the STX is a supercab as well, but I'd go STX with the CPO because (as has been mentioned) it has the second gen 2.7 eco (direct and port injection) and it has the 10 speed transmission. Check them both out and drive them both though. My opinion may not be the right one for you 😉

Oh, and put the STX 2.7L in Sport Mode for the test drive.
