Need some advice/help
I'm beginning to do the swap to a heated steering wheel. All but the control module will be here on Monday and I'm going to start making the wiring harness and installing pieces. Hope to have it all ready so that I will only have to plug in the module and make the changes in ForScan and then I'll have a heated wheel. However, I've run into a problem from the get-go. I cannot get the airbag to come off the steering wheel so that I can begin the process of changing the clock spring and the other pieces. I have tried everything short of destroying the airbag cover and housing to get it to come out and I definitely don't want to do that. I have tried using an allen wrench to push on the locks for the airbag, tried using a screwdriver to do it, tried to pull up while pushing in where you're supposed to, but I cannot get that thing to release. Anyone have any tips or tricks or other ideas on how to get the airbag to come loose? I've also had the battery disconnected while working on this for safety's sake so I don't accidentally trigger the airbag. Appreciate any advice from y'all!!
Antho, thanks for the link. I've watched that video and I know how it's supposed to work. The problem I am having is that the airbag won't release from the tabs that are holding it in place. I have the new steering wheel and I can see how it's supposed to work, but it just won't. I can put an allen wrench in the hole and slide it to the point where the airbag snaps under the latch, measure it and then put the allen wrench into the hole on my steering wheel and it doesn't go in as far. Not sure what the issue is, but if I wiggle the airbag around, I can feel it hitting the allen wrench. I just can't get it to release like it's supposed to and that's the issue. I could have sworn I had the airbag off once before when I was checking to see if I had the correct clock spring and I don't remember it being this difficult to remove. I've watched several of the YouTube videos, but they have been no help.
