"Missing" oil fill cap - trigger CEL?
My son just finished a trip from DFW area to New Orleans area (Covington). He has a 2018 Scab STX with 2.7L EB. He had the oil/filter changed about 4000+/- miles ago. Near the end of his drive, after some rough running/idling periods and a CEL coming on, he popped the hood and noticed the oil filler cap was off and wedged near the hood opening latch. Checked the oil, less than a quart low. Topped off the oil with a bottle of Pennzoil 5w-30 (non-syn) bought from a convenience store. Drove the remaining ~100 miles or so to Covington. CEL still on. Still idling rough.
Will be taking it to dealer tomorrow. But by itself is a missing oil filler cap enough to trigger the CEL?

The 2.7eco needs to sit at least 15 minutes before checking oil level to get an accurate reading. Checking and topping off without waiting will cause you to over fill the oil.
My 2016 is at the same level 10k miles after an oil change... Doesnt lose a drop. 36k miles on the clock.
Sorry I can't help on your question but I have a word of warning in case you/he didn't know.

Update: it took awhile but finally had dealer (Supreme Ford in Slidell) pinpoint the problem - DTC's thrown were P0302, P2196, P0316, it was the infamous TSB 18-2310 (bad fuel injectors).

The missing oil filler cap is still somewhat of a mystery. It apparently (?) had nothing to do with the CEL. Logically I'd think that when my son's oil was last changed the knuckleheads at the Midas shop he went to forgot to re-install it. But driving ~4000+ miles w/o the oil filler cap and losing less than a half quart of oil? I guess anything's possible.....
