I noticed while changing my oil today that there is what looks like a ground cable that goes to the starter that isn’t secured with a nut. I’m assuming this isn’t normal but wanted to check with someone else before fiddling with it. What do you all think? It’s the black and purple wire in the picture. It’s a 2017 5.0.

Starter looks fine. I just changed mine a month ago on the 5.0V8. Start grounds by its connection to bellhousing. One always hot red cable, and the solenoid wire . Thats it.
I dont know what that other black purple wire is and its raining outside right now or i would check. Is it just floating out there with no connector end?

Your specific vehicle and engine is?????
Updated the OP with the year and engine.
There is an eyelet at the end of the black and purple wire.
Just checked...mine has a nut on the black purple cable... looks like you are missing a nut....Your starter that is 🤣
Thanks for checking! I’m surprised the truck hasn’t given me any issues although I’m not sure what uses that ground. I’ll pick up a nut for it in the morning.
