Misfiring When Accelerating
Can you try using a code reader or even better Forscan to see more detail about the misfire?
Could be spark plug, coil pack, coil boot/spring to name a few items. You've tried new fuel by now... try higher octane?

Unpopular opinion because it contradicts the owners manual:
5 year old truck with 80k on original spark plugs and it has evidence of misfiring…
change the plugs, maybe the coil boots too…wouldn’t invest in coil packs unless the plugs and bolts don’t work.
plenty of tuners and other smart folks recommend 30-40k intervals on plugs for the turbo engines…plugs are $45 and take about 30-40 min to change.

Just broke 100k on my 3.5 and have been experiencing the same issue, figured it was a misfire. Replaced my spark plugs today but haven’t really done much testing. Definitely seems to run better. Going to do some expressway driving tomorrow.
Truck has 87,000 miles. Spark plugs will be replaced for the first time at the April 22nd service appointment. The event occurs at the point of acceleration from highway speed to passing speed - several thuds and jerks, which stop when I take my foot off the gas peddle. The mechanic at Carson City states “scanned for codes, found none”. The check engine light has come on briefly during two of these events, then gone off.

Boomerzoomer - I concur with WVMoose. I would not wait to change the plugs and boots. If you are fairly handy at turning wrenches, this is not too bad of a job to take on yourself. My 2011 F-150 SuperCrew FX4 3.5L EcoBoost [note this was Gen 1 of that engine] exhibited the same symptoms you described when I was at ~35,000 miles. I changed the spark plugs and boots and problem was resolved. That engine was notoriously tough on spark plugs.
I have not yet changed plugs on my 2018 F-150 SuperCrew Lariat 3.5L EcoBoost [which is a Gen 2 engine] and I am currently at 39K miles. However, I would not hesitate to do so if it was to begin exhibiting similar symptoms. I would of course also pull DTCs and review.
I am struggling a bit to believe your tech in that no codes were present, but perhaps that is the case. Keep in mind that you could have other issues here, but it is easy enough to rule out spark plugs. IMO, 87K miles is a lot on plugs regardless of any published maintenance schedule.
Also curious...Does the MIL just light up or does it ever flash (on and off) on you? A flashing light would indicate a more significant misfire situation. Also keep in mind, not all DTC will trip the MIL. If the misfires are violent enough, you will feel a loss of power while driving. Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out.
At 87k miles I would do plugs and plug boots before worrying about coils.
Mine was doing it around 90k, I had changed the plugs at 60k and did the boots when I got back from my trip when I had the same thing happen as you.
I would get a flashing engine light but no stored codes. If I stayed in the throttle long enough it would thow a code for misfire.

I have the same problem with my f150 in that it jerks and bumps when I am getting on the freeway, kicking in the turbos. I have had it to ford and my independent car repair shop. When it first started happening, (at 165k miles), I had an error code saying cylinder 5 was misfiring, ford replaced the plug and boot. Soon after, a couple more times it happened, additional trips to ford. I wish that I’d just had them all done the first time. Im not getting any error codes to help diagnose what’s going on. Could a transmission problem be causing this?
Anyway, I almost exclusively use Sams club gas, after seeing some of these posts suggesting gas as the problem, I’m beginning to wonder if Sams gas may be the cause.
I’ve spent probably close to $2,000 trying to get past this. I’d hate to have to buy a new truck to get past this.

having the exact same problem with my truck, what was your outcome?
