Military Grade my @$$
Has anyone else come across this? I was moving a floor sander this weekend, and admittedly my tie down strategy was closing the tailgate. I regret mu decision.
The sander slid and listened to the bang..... I knew I was in for a dent but when I got to the back I was astonished. Where the sander slid into the wheel well there as the dent I expected but the aluminum was also broken. I now have a giant crack in my wheel well that you could stick your hand into.
I feel torn and I know allot of people will say that you need to tie stuff down and that I caused the damage. I am not denying that. But I have had and used pick-up trucks all of my life and I have had some whopper dents in the box but this is the first time I have ever seen a dent crack open.
Thoughts?

Military grade stuff dents and cracks when you hit it with fast-moving heavy objects, too.

I had a cousin that had a similar kind of break like Opie here. Wheel well of a Ford Ranger, crack caused by a push lawn mower. I wouldn't expect that because mowers are generally light, but it happened... seems to be a coin toss. I wonder if Ford or a good metal worker can fix it.

That’s my thoughts, Ford wanted to replace the full wheel well, cut it out weld in a new one, repaint the full bed for about $4K.
I am leaning toward the bend it back, get it looking close to right, have it welded up, and hit it with some bed liner..... no one will know the difference.
