MFT To Sync 3 - Version Update
I recently completed the MFT to Sync 3 swap, using the screen and APIM from a local wrecker, with NAV.
Used Forscan and got everything working as it should, but I am now curious as to updating the Sync3 from V2.3 to V3.0.
Has anyone been able to do this? I have found a link for the sync 3 v3 at 4dtech's website, but I have also read several comments all mentioning that it could brick the system, and they do not recommend doing the update.
Background information as well - tried using WiFi and searching for updates, but being as my truck is a 2015 with MFT factory equipped, it continues "searching". I have let it sit for 15 minutes, and there have been no updates found.

My search skills may not be the best, but I haven't found any articles discussing this. I think it would be great to know if it is possible.
Thanks!!

I updated mine from 2.3 to v3 and it works fine. I tried updating over wifi first, using the autoupdate option in the Sync 3's general settings, but it would not find an update. I downloaded the update from Ford and installed it on a thumbdrive, and then plugged that into the truck's usb port. At first, I did not think it was going to work, as it did not immediately begin installing the software, but after about 3-4 minutes, it started, The info on updating says it can take 30 minutes, but mine only took about 20-25 minutes. It does not take effect until you turn off and restart the truck, but even that did not immediately show, as I had to turn off the truck and wait a few minutes with the truck off before restarting it and at that point, everything showed as updated and working.
I did find find a lot of obvious differences in v2.3 vs. v3, but after the update, I began receiving notifications of texts on my phone, and could have them read aloud over the audio system, which did not work previously.

Tried the above suggestion on a long road trip, and about 10 minutes later it finally started applying the updates. Took another day after the updates were "installed" before the system upgraded. Everything continues to work flawlessly for me. Thanks for the help!
I haven't yet done the swap, but will be getting all the components in the next week from TexasFording. I asked him about the 3.0 upgrade and here is what he told me.
Find a VIN from a 2016 or up truck that has sync 3 on it and register it under your personal ford owners account. Once you have done that, you should be able to download the update from the site and throw it on a USB.
For the install, pop in the USB and wait the 30 minutes or so to install. He recommended putting a charger on the battery rather than letting the truck idle that long, though I guess you could do it while driving. Once installed, turn the truck off and let it sit for 10 minutes, and pull out the USB. Then turn on and let it boot up, could take 5 min or so, and Nav might not come up right away. Then turn truck off again, and let it sit another 10 minutes. After that, turn on and enjoy.
He also recommended installing the hardware, doing the sync update, and only once updated doing the Forscan updates to get everything working.
TexasFording is all over this forum and has helped a lot of people with their swaps, so I trust what he says. Also, from my interactions with him so far, he's an all around nice guy that has a wealth of knowledge about this stuff. I'd highly recommend working with him for anyone else that might be looking to make the swap.
