Default Maybe a crazy question...

I'm getting my 2018 F-150 Supercrew Cab tinted this weekend. I asked that he do all the windows, but I was reading on a thread here that the back door windows are already somewhere between the 18 and 20% VLT. Tennessee only allows down to 35% on the front windows. So, if the installer uses 35% on the rear windows... does it change the VLT any? Seems that at 20%, adding another level of tint at a greater VLT isn't going to do anything. Guess I could do them in 5% for the back doors, and maybe 10% for the rear window.

Adding 35% to the existing rear tint will probably bring you down to around 5% maybe less. Will be real dark. Think spray paint. Then putting 35 on the fronts will make the mis match more obvious. If you want to keep pretty much the same look, you could go with an 80% ceramic on the rears that way you get the heat and UV rejection without changing the darkness much...

The factory tinted/smoked glass on the back windows is pretty dark by itself. Adding more on top would make it darker.

I’ve done legal 35% on my front door windows with my last 2 trucks and have been happy. 20% or more was too dark to back a trailer at night.

Adding 35% to the back windows will darken it to approximately 7%... if you add 5% to the back doors you’ll be at about 1% and 10% on the rear window will be about 3.5%. skinnyb is right, that will be really dark. That being said, I’m having mine wrapped at 20% front and back, which will make the rear doors and window about 4-5% or limo-tint. We have similar laws in Kentucky, but they are only really enforced if you’re driving like a jackwagon...

Don't want to go that low! My 2004 the back windows were 5% and worked out nicely, with no aftermarket tint on the rear. Maybe I'll just repeat that. Here in Tennessee you won't find any business that will do less than 35%. I'm sure I can find someone to do it... but not a company that will warranty it. I'd love to do 20%.

My 2012 is 15% on the back and the 2019 is 19% on the back ( I tested it myself with a calibrated Laser Labs tester). Now even with this it can still be off, but they are both pretty close. I tinted the fronts at 22% pretty close in looks. I had told them legal which is 25% here but...

It looks good, and I haven't been stopped yet. KOW.

I put 35% on the front and left the rear and it looks great to me. The front is a little lighter but thats fine.
If you need the heat blocking the guys that did my Windows showed me a ceramic heat blocking film that looked clear to me. Said they do a lot of back and rear windows with it and even sunrooms. If I lived South I would probably have that done.

My tint guy put his tint gauge on my rears and they were 25% give or take 1 percent, if I recall correctly.
