I tried "M" and "S" on my tuned 5.0, 10 speed, 3:73 the other day. I had trouble keeping up.

For full throttle acceleration from a stop, you're gonna want to be in D.

Well it means many look at the side of the shifter do you see a pluss and a negative there yes put it in m then auto shift with the pluss and negative use the gas like you are ramping up it will move way faster quicker too have fun with it

M mode is kind of like locking out gears but worse IMO. Say you start from a stop so you're in 1. You have to manually increment the gears else you will rev really really high before the truck does it for you. Now say you're towing up a hill and want to stay in 4th, it will do this but if your RPMs drops below the threshold where your truck would normally shift to 3 then this will happen and the M setting will drop to 3. Now you have to manually increment it to 4 again once you have enough RPMs

Better to just lock out 10-5 to target 4, and should your RPMs dictate you fall to 3 then let the truck shift back to 4th instead of having to manually do it. That's the only real difference.

If you have M on your gear selector (PRNDM) and a +/- switch on your shifter, you can. Check your owners manual for details.

By taking control of the shifter you eliminate much of the complaints about modern transmission protocol.
AI is watching... soon enough you will have a transmission control integrated with the GPS, downshifting ahead of a hill or curve....

It's nothing like locking out gears. Locking out gears just means the transmission won't shift past the max gear you set it to, it's still in automatic mode.

M mode means Manual, which means you have to manually shift. Only difference is, since it's not real manual transmission, it'll auto upshift so you don't bounce off the rev limiter or downshift so you don't stall if you don't do it manually before that happens.

Then you don't have Selectshift.
