Default Lowering the Spare

Although it isn't a bad problem, really, it's a hassle to get the manufacturer's jack parts out when I want to lower the spare for non-tire changing reasons.

Does anyone know something that can substitute? To my surprise, a ratchet extension doesn't work.

$60 plus shipping just to avoid having to unpack the tool set is a bit much.
i was sorta thinking someone might have found a different way to raise and lower the spare.
