Default Lower gear torque management

2016 3.5 Eco. Anyone notice that in 1st and 2nd gear, with a relatively easy throttle the truck seems very much like it's normally aspirated. A big difference once you hit converter lockup in third gear. Feels like a significant torque increase and it starts to pull. Just me?

Boost is limited in the first 2 gears in the 6 speed...that's probably what you feel.

Tune it and that goes away.

Interesting.. the other day I pulled on the highway and after shifting into 2nd, I realized I needed to get up to 65 quicker... I hit the gas and it broke the rear wheels free (dry road). This was the first time in 2nd gear, but I don't try that sort of thing.

Seems like a lot of torque in mine? But I know what you are talking about with the torque converter in 3rd, I feel/notice it every time.

What you feel is turbo lag. It seems naturally aspirated because with easy throttle and low revs the turbo's can't spool up so there is little to no turbo boost. Put your foot down a little more and all that torque will be yours no matter what gear you're in. I think Ford only uses the torque management programming in the Powerstroke Diesel, 900+ lb/ft of torque in the first two gears would destroy the transmission.

You would be incorrect. It's been discussed multiple times here with the corresponding supporting documents posted. I'm not gonna go look for that info again but it's here somewhere.

Nope, what he feels is not turbo lag, its detuned engine management. There is a huge difference between the stock 14 EB and the 15+ EB in that the 14 has power right off the line with little pedal effort, but the 15+ has a soft pedal. This is why the 16 I have felt like a dog compared to my 14. Put it in sport mode and that lag goes away, put in a tune and the pedal is ZIPPY.

Not saying the EB doesn't have turbo lag, it does, but barely noticeable, it has a soft pedal. I have a 5* tune in mine, the 87 Perf/tow, and it will light the tires from a dead step with half a pedal, and a light pedal it is up and moving before most people can get their foot off the brake.
