THANKS for those threads! That definitely shows me what I'll be getting into.

No matter what the fit, I'm starting to think the cost of the new one is worth it just for the convenience--nothing like chasing down people on craigslist to loosen your wallet for the easy buy.

used ones can be had for the 15 and up's - but you'll be extremely lucky to find one where the color matches. call a local reseller and see if they have any on hand or keep scouring CL. i found one for my old truck and had to drive 8 hrs to get it, but it was well worth the color match headache.

also - if you go the new route - check into the aluminum caps. for what you're looking for, they're way cheaper, secure, and light as a feather for when you move them. checks the box...

How much can I expect to pay for a used '15 and up topper? Im in Austin and the dealers here don't seem to have many used at all. One spot has a new one that was ordered incorrectly--it even seems to match my paint. They can give me a deal, in theory, but the thing has so many add on features that with the deal it's still gonna be $1500 more or less.

The aluminum ones were exactly what I was initially looking for! I haven't had any luck around here, though.

depends what model it is... but no harm in asking for them to discount their stock to move it off the lot. my z series was $2400 new...

used can vary, but i wouldn't be surprised to see someone who paid for one new asking for $1000-1500. older models that are "take offs" from 2nd or 3rd owners later on in the life of the truck usually go for much cheaper. I got a used ARE z series for $600 painted to match my 2004 truck in 2011. new aluminum caps with no options can be had for $7-800.
