I got my 2017 F 150 back from dealership on 21 July. It was in to have cam phaser replaced. It was running fine. On the morning of 11 Aug, I got off work, went out and started the truck. It started right up. Then it made a noise, not like the cam phaser noise and died. It would not start. Had it towed to an other dealership. They said it has a siezed piston and the engine needs to be replaced. What are your thoughts on the cam phaser replacement causing the piston seizure?

It would be good to know more about the truck. Total mileage, service history, anything else you can think of. Regarding the piston issue, I am curious why you didn't take it back to the dealer that serviced the cam phasers, just wondering.

Also, we don't know the cause of the piston failure. It could be broken rings and I suppose a host of other lubrication issues. From my perspective, too early to know a true answer to your question. I would suspect the servicing dealer knows more than just that the piston is seized. Wish you luck.

I would tend to agree, not likely, but I also know never to say never also. Replacing the cam phaser didn't or at least shouldn't have gotten into the internals of the engine or anywhere near a piston. The only way it was anywhere close is the cam and some valves, but you would have had indications of rough running and misfires I would think if it was cam/valve related.
