Default Lights on center Console

I have a 2020 F150 Lariat. It has the bucket seats with the shifter in the console. I am retired and don't drive too much during the night. I recently drove my truck to a local restaurant at night. I noticed that there were no lights on the console to indicate if I was in PARK or REVERSE or DRIVE (I know its on the dash). Is the no lights on the console normal?

Thanks

yep...

Ford did away with the lights about 3 years ago. Now you have to use the gear position indicator in the instrument panel.

SSM 47929 - 2018-2019 F-150 - Floor Shift Transmission Selector Lever - Floor Shift Gear Selection Indicator (PRNDL) Not Illuminated - Built On Or After 17-Jan-2018

2018-2019 F-150 vehicles equipped with a floor shift transmission selector lever built on or after 17-Jan-2018 are not equipped with an illuminated gear selection indicator (PRNDL) on the transmission selector lever assembly. The component is no longer equipped due to a running change. The vehicle is not misbuilt. The addition of any parts would not be considered a warrantable repair. Do not submit a claim for this condition.

Thanks for the info. This has been a mystery and I even had the service department inspect it for possible repair.

Now I want to find a modification to add the backlighting to it. The gear selection indication is illuminated in other F-150 so maybe I can replicate it.

There's an LED light for it if you can still find one. Try searching this section of the forum for the PRNDL console light. I found one a few years ago, taped it under the display and tapped it into a pair of wires to light mine (still weak, and still doesn't show which gear you're in).

This is the only vehicle I've ever owned with a console shifter that lacked a lighted display next to the shift lever.
