Default Length Vs. Width Bed Divider

Ordered my first pick up truck ever last month and supposed to be delivered early April. F-150 Lariat SCrew with 157" wheel base. So a rookie question.......I read some of the threads about bed dividers and they all seem to discuss dividing the width of the bed......but I want to divide my 6.5' length. I was looking at the slots indented into the tailgate and the front of the bed and I assume people cut a board and fit them in there to divide the bed lengthwise? Anyone do this? If so does it stay in place when slammed by shifting cargo? I'm trying to block off a protected space for a bunch of expensive one piece fishing rods all hidden under the tonneau I haven't selected yet. Thanks.

Might want to look at the Tuffy products.
