I am one of those people that think there is actually too much technology in cars these days. Driving is something that too many people take for granted and it's not something we should be handing over to technology. People are complacent enough as it when driving and the more responsibilities you take away from the drive the less they are going to pay attention as they assume the car will do everything for them. Another way of putting is: driving is a perishable skill and cars these days are doing a lot of driving for us.

EXACTLY.

I don't like lane assists, anything that takes control of the steering wheel for me...and people are having potentially deadly problems with things like lane assist and those adaptive cruise controls and all.

Lane assist does not take control, it will gently try to steer truck back in to the lane but if there is any resistance to the steering wheel with your hands, truck will let you drive it as you want to. you can really test this by changing lanes without signaling first. there will be light resistance as you cross from one lane to another

Also, for kicks.. i did try to let the system steer the truck 100 % by taking hands of the wheel (empty highway and safe location) and trucks message console flashed right away saying "dumb ***.. put your hands back on the steering wheel, this is not self driving google car"

in short, i think this is great feature and works great but you do need to understand what and how it works.

My dad likes to show that off too. Puts on cruise control and basically hovers his hands over the wheel. Truck keeps up with traffic (slows down when it needs to) and keeps itself in the lane. Quite cool if you ask me!

Priceless.

Fair enough. I just don't like the idea of it honestly. I also tend to be bothered right now by self driving cars, despite the fact that I'm sure a vast majority of commuters could really benefit from them.

given that 95% of drivers here are NOT properly trained, NOT alert, and even LESS focused when they drive, I sometimes would rather see robots driving than all the smartphone / burgers / make-up addicts around here

Technology will never replace training, but it looks like we've given up on the latter, so the former has to make up for it as much as it can...

I would feel safer at night if the vehicle behind me had ACC at least it can see my truck.
