I installed the OEM Kicker Sub & Amp in October and activated it with FORScan. Since then, Ive been getting a "sub bump" a few minutes after the truck is shut down... or if I open a door, (key off) then close the door.. never started the engine... a few minutes later... "bump" from the sub...

Is there a fix? Is it a FORScan issue?

 

Most likely it is the BCM pulling power from the amps, which will discharge the caps in them and cause that thump you hear. I had a Kicker in a 14 and every time I did a tune, it would do that when the PCM pulled power from the rest of the truck. I got to the point that I would yank the fuses to the amps before installing a tune. First time I did it, it scared the ****es out of me, thought the truck fried.

The amps had power, but the radio inputs did not, and thats what caused the thump. Chances are you have the amps wired directly to the battery, so they are always powered, so when the head unit shuts off, it is probably removing power to the inputs as well doing the same thing installing a tune did on my 14.

 

Yes, thats is the thump I'm hearing... and it does scare the **** out of my passengers... sometimes it's funny...

For the wiring, it is Fords wiring... the Kicker Sub/Amp is an OEM accessory. It's plug and play..... but the harness in the truck needed to be activated through Ford. I activated it myself using FORScan.

 

Ford must have made a change in how it turns the amps off then, instead of a soft bleed down, then just shut it right off.

That first time it happens when sitting in the truck made me jump and damn near gave me a heart attack mainly because I had just pressed the continue button on the programmer. All the screens go dark, and the truck is essentially dead at that point, so you can imagine what was going through my mind the first time I uploaded a tune. Pulling the fuses from the amps before uploading a tune solved that thump. It's not the power being pulled from the amps but the hard disconnect of the audio inputs.
