Default Key wouldn't turn

Something quite interesting happened today and I just thought I would share. When I turned off my truck my steering wheel was slightly turned to the right. When I got back in my truck after running in the store my truck key wouldn't turn over. First I tried the auto start from my key fob and then tried to turn the key, no luck. Next, I tried pushing the gear "more" into park, no luck. Lastly, I thought let me turn the wheel more to the right. This worked. I am not sure but I assume it would be the same for if I had left my wheel to the left. I also have never experience this other cars so I do not know if it is common.

So, if you ever run into this situation just turn your wheel and crank the key.

This happened to be me one time, when I was 15. I think every car I've ever driven did this.

Not sure the mechanics behind it but I’ve had that happened twice a while back. Once my old man back into my truck and pushed the truck a few inches. My steering wheel got locked. Had to rock the wheel side to side while turning the key and it worked.

Second time was when I grabbed the wheel and turned it while it was off causing the wheel to lock up. Had to rock the wheel side to side while turning the key.

Not sure if that helps but that was my experience with keys not wanting to turn.

I've experienced this with every vehicle I've owned, so it shouldn't really be a surprise to most drivers, but some people need a reminder every now and then.

Interesting. Could this perhaps be a measure from Ford to prevent vehicle theft? I've yet to have this happen on my F-150, but on my Toyota, if the steering wheel is turned even slightly or accidentally when the ignition is off, the steering wheel will lock / seize. Supposedly, from what I'm told, it is to prevent someone from moving and turning your vehicle when they aren't supposed to (i.e. in the event of attempted theft). The trick with Toyotas is to insert the key, and attempt to cycle the ignition while turning the steering wheel (left or right) to unlock it. I'll have to give this a go on my Ford later.

Wasn't supposed to be a "be" in there. Perhaps it reads less sarcastic that way. Anyway, it's a pretty common thing. At least I thought it was.

I happens to me all the time in the winter, especially on the car (small sport coupe with the wheel ajusted as high as possible and the seat high too), when I'm wearing bibs and my knee rubs against the wheel, making it rotate a little "farther".
