Default Key Programming Issue

Has anyone here successful programed a generic key to their truck? I bought a generic key blank on amazon, its doesn't have any buttons, its just a transponder key, common part number is H128-PT. I have tried multiple times and have not had any luck getting it to program. When I look in Forscan the BCM says "key not programmed," then we I go through the 2 key procedure, the error codes changes to "programming error" and the door looks never cycle.

I do have keyless entry and remote start, and I am wondering if the truck errors out, because there is no Fob to program. Tried disabling keyless entry and remote start via Forscan, but still had no joy.

Truck is a 2020 XLT

Thanks for the help.

If you are inserting 2 previously working keys & then the new fobless key & trk does not accept it as programmed I would think there is a problem with that keys chip.....I'm sure you have done this but the only remedy (other than return this key) I would retry making sure you have done the correct sequence etc.
I had no problem doing my fobless key a few months ago....In short the chip in the fobless key once programmed should work to start the truck only??

At this point I do think its the key (cheap generic), just didn't know if you could program a headless key to the newer trucks using the DIY method. Supplier says only a dealer can program it, but I think they are full of it.

Yes, you can program a fobless key. I did what you did with my 2015 because I wanted a key without all the buttons. However, I did not use Forscan. Also, I used the factory replacement Rotunda key that is available on eBay.

I programmed it using the typical programming method. You need 2 programmed keys to program a new one. If you're using Forscan, it's entirely possible there is an issue with the program or the key itself. Forscan is a great tool but there is no guarantee that it will support all vehicles and their systems.

1. Insert programmed key #1
2. Turn ignition to on
3. Turn ignition to off and remove key
4. Insert programmed key #2
5. Turn ignition to on
6. Turn ignition to off and remove key
7. Insert new, unpgrammed key
8. Turn ignition to on

New key should be programmed.
