Keep Both Hands on Steering Wheel warning message
Anyone else find this message annoying and know how to disable it? It popped on for me 5 times in a 10 minute window and I had both hands on the wheel. Then it doesn't come on at all when I have one hand on wheel for an extended period of time. Sometimes it beeps when the message pops up and sometimes it doesn't.

I have never seen this message. Where does it show up? Can you take a (e.g. cellphone) pic of it?
How does the truck know whether you have two or one hands on the wheel?
Anything in the manual about this?

Aha! It seems this is part of the "lane keeping" system.
Good luck with that.

The message shows up in the instrument cluster on the dash. I've seen it maybe two times in the first month I've had my truck and I usually drive with one hand (or just a couple fingers).
Sounds to me like your system may be over sensitive. Perhaps some adjustment can be made by the dealer?

I have gotten the coffee warning a couple times, including this morning, never the two hands on the wheel warning though. I have taken my hands off the wheel a few times to try to get that message, but it has never popped up. I didn't have lane keep any of these times, it is usually not activated.

I get that message all the time, lane departure system on or off. Sure it's annoying and unnecessary but it's also insulting - mine is one of those trucks which tracks poorly and I have no choice but to keep my hands on the wheel or it will soon be off the road.

Was told it would pop up with little or no input to the steering wheel for some pre determined period of time, like a long stretch of highway without any curves. My significant other likes to give me grief when it does come on.....

It is set off by a lack of steering input, not contact with the wheel itself. On a straight road with the truck needing no steering for a certain number of seconds is when you will get it.

Yeah, I also thought this could be overridden by turning the lane departure system off. According to Derodeo that's not the case. I've only turned my lane departure on so far to make sure it works, but am going on a long road trip this weekend and will probably turn it on then to see how it works (I'll be on long, straight highways). Will be interesting to see what happens.
