There are much better options than 15k Ford dealership. As you are finding out, this is a well known problem to those that follow the industry. I'm amazed that there never was a check oil light? or poor oil pressure? Sorry for your bad day, another option is trade it. Most won't care it's going to action anyway.

That's ridiculous. The recommended maintenance works well for the vast majority of owners. The OP's problemm isn't the result of the service intervals being insufficient, it's the result of failure to check the oil level occasionally, as recommended by the manual.

Wow.... you all are in a MOOD today. OP, sorry on behalf of the forum here. Yes the oil consumption thing sucks. It was pretty common on some of the 5.0l years. It has improved. Do a bit more research if you are going to replace the engine and make sure you get the updated version. The newer ones seem fine and some of the older models I think also didn't have any issues. As for if you should or shouldnt, that's a personal choice.

and yeah, if no one told you to occasionally check your oil after the first time it was a problem, they should have told you that. It was likely consuming oil then too.

I mean, any vehicle with 100k miles should have the oil checked occasionally.. known issue or not.

Hell, mine all have 60k or less on them and they get checked every second fuel up. 30 years or old 3 years old..

If someone tells you you need a 15k engine replacement, you get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th opinion. Some dealers are no better than your local chop shop, they’ll tell you anything to get you out of their shop and go away.

Agreed, 15k price is the 'we don't want the job' or sometimes customer.

As stated by others, go get a second and third opinion on it. If it really does need a new engine, find a trustworthy indy shop should you decide to replace it.

I had my motor replaced at around the 250k mile mark. It was a brand new motor from Ford with the same warranty but everything was handled by an indy shop I trusted. The cost was far less than what any of the dealers in my area were estimating at the time.

That is a mature technology in use for at least 50 years that I know of. Many independent shops around the country replate cylinder bores.

Then again plenty of engine manufacturers knew how to make aluminum blocks with unsleeved bores before GM's Vega, but that didn't stop GM from F'ing it up.
