So your hub teeth are worn away, but not as bad as mine were where they would not lock into the hub at all when in 4wd. In addition to the check valve which you should have put in a blue/white one rather than an older black/white one, there is a TCCM flash update for 2018 made in like Oct and earlier, which delays the movement of the IWE into 2wd mode until 1/2 mile of driving from engine start to give the vacuum cannister time to build up a good amount of vacuum. Now if you have a truck with the 4A drive mode that brings in a whole different level of TSB recommended changes.
Yea I noticed that but I'm not replacing the hub over that little bit of wear. I knew there would be some because of the chatter I would hear once in a while.

Here is a pic of a new one.

and a close up of mine. It's really not that bad.

So is this a condition of several issues working against themselves as well as “claiming “ something should be maintenance free, when it should really be serviced annually?

I don't think I would want to rip this apart annually? To what re grease it? I guess ford could add a zerk fitting to pump more grease in there, but hey that fitting would add more weight to the truck... LOL

not a matter of “adding more grease”….

it’s a matter of getting rid of the gritty, nasty 🤢 stuff that’s getting stiffer and stiffer to move.

much like we’d do repacking wheel bearings in bygone years.

I see what you are saying but that would be alot of work. If I'm taking all that apart I would just replace the IWE altogether.

Yea I did inspect them and blew them out pretty well. I forgot to add that in the OP. I also got one of them cheap vacuum testers from amazon and tested the new IWE separate and then the entire system. All was good.

Still planning on replacing the other IWE though.

I am not going into details. You can see the OP what I did and it was ditto for the right side.

This side went alot faster... Yep you learn alot from doing something for the first time.

I have to say those losers at Ford Parts Prime .com are still playing games, but my CC our on there @$$%%^^%# and got me half refund. They did send me one IWE. I can't believe they are still in business they way they operate.

Here are some pics from the right side. Enjoy

You mentioned unplugging the abs wire from the engine bay, I'd just add that I found it easier to remove the abs sensor from the hub. 1 bolt, you can clean up any debris in there and you just swing it out of the way rather than mess with all those little plastic wire holders.

This is a job I need to do soon and just don't want to deal with lol. I've been lucky thusfar both with install of lowering and lifting struts but I think my time is here. I'll probably go with Dorman replacements just for availability

Yep if it wasn't for FORScan and how easy this truck is to work on. I would have got rid of it long ago. As long as I stay away from the Ford Dealers I am pretty happy with it. LOL
