Default IWE and 4A

Got the hub grind this morning. If I put it in 4 auto it goes away but seems like it’s engaging 4wd? Am I thinking too hard here?

How long can I leave it like this? I wanna do struts and brakes on the next oil change in 5,000 miles. Could just drop it off at the dealer and get it all done at once.

In 4A the hubs are locked that’s why the grinding stops. It’s the transfer case that allows the varied torque/slipping to move power where needed. You can drive in 4A all the time it won’t hurt anything.

When the IWEs are engaged, steering will feel heavier, and with it being in 4A, power is transferred from one end to the other, everything except the grinding sounds normal. You're alright just driving it in 4A.
