I was test driving a new F150. When I came to a stop, the motor cut off and the tach fell. I asked the sales guy "What just happened?" he replied "It's the shutdown. Yea, it will save you a lot of gas. Don't pay it any attention."
Okay, I guess that's the way it is. Embrace the shutdown.
Oh, don't forget to vote for the Truck Of The Month Contest!
It will save you a little bit of gas. Overall, it saves the Ford fleet at lot of gas.
There is a button on the dash to push once the truck is started to override the engine shutdown if you don't like it. You can also lightly lift up on the brake pedal, or start turning the steering wheel to keep it on. Big list in the manual of what prevents shutdowns.
I really don't understand the hate on for the auto stop/start. My truck does it and I don't even notice it unless the radio is off and you're focusing on it. Not to mention a simple push of a button deactivates if it really bugs you. The savings in fuel are more substantial than most here think. But then again up in Canada gas isn't as cheap as south of the border.

I’m with you on this. Yeah sure it confused the **** out of me the first couple times it happened but now I almost never even notice it unless I’m actually paying attention to the engine.
I just wonder about the wear and tear on the engine. Starting/stopping constantly anything isn't good.
you have to remember that the engine is at operating temp and all moving parts should still be properly oiled. Plus start/stop has been in use for over a decade in Europe. Plus my understanding is that the starter is a lower speed higher torque design to keep the wear down.
The way I drive, it'd actually waste more gas, add wear and tear, and over-discharge the battery. Why? I drive mostly relatively short-distances, hardly ever stop for more than a fraction of a second (where the damn thing still kills the engine for a fraction of a second) because I time the stop lights, and there're a lot of stop signs. It's just a gimmick. Same thing with the 'turbo engines save gas'. Mine doesn't.
