That is a **** ton of weight...damn. If the tires have been balanced, re-balanced, indexed, and road forced...time to try a different set.

Hahahaha

I never knew that about the colored dots.

with the balancers we use, it corrects everything for us. Where are you located? and honestly, if you were at my store, we would have just ordered another set for you already or maybe try a different tire all together.

located in nashville- and I love the grapplers on road speed but high way it just isn’t great

and I have had toyo mud terrain on a previous tundra so I’m used to more aggressive tires. Something just doesn’t feel right with these.

I have been using discount tire now for years and have always been pleased. The first location really dropped the ball giving me two bad balances. The location I recently brought it to did a bit better but they added a ton of weight to each wheel and I am still having issues.

Definitely bring it up to them and see about getting them replaced. Hell, we have replaced tires before not because of a balance issue but because the guy didnt like how they looked haha.

That looks like waaaay too many weights. If the weights are opposing from what I remember from working in ai tire shop in high school, then something isn't right. I would see if they can get another set. With that said, I've been buying Nitto and Toyo forever and never had a problem or weights like that. Currently running 35x12.5 Toyo mt's.

thanks
- appreciate your thoughts. Let me ask you this

the strangest thing about this is that every time I have brought it in- usually a couple of days after the last balance- the tires were out of balance. The second time I got a note that said bad run outs left side (from the original balance). With the new ship I got that all 4 were out of balance.

Each time I have been getting vastly different weights on the wheel. What is causing this with the machines that y’all use?

Balancing seems to be a bit of an issue with those tires.

Wrangler forum:
My final thoughts are overall, this could've been a great tire. It has plenty going for it but to me the wet performance, wear pattern, and weight it took the tire to balance means I will not be buying these again nor would I recommend them to the fine people of this forum. Feel free to ask questions below.

So last week I had a new set of Nitto RGs in 265/75R16s put on. First time driving, started getting horrible vibrations over 50 MPH. Took back to tire shop and rebalanced. Worked good for a day. The next day above 50 MPH, horrible vibrations. I was told one tire had a hump, so I we ordered a replacement. I went in today to replace the tire they suspect was out of round, followed by a RF balance. Still have the bad vibrations. So the question is, do I have them replace the other 3 for a full set of “new” tires or give up on the Nittos and go with something else?

Jeep forum:
Is anyone running into any issues with their Nitto Ridge Grapplers? I'm running 37x12.50r17s on ATX Ravine 17x9 wheels, and I believe that they are, once again, out of balance. I had them Road Force balanced at Discount Tire here in VA, maybe a month ago. This eliminated most of the speed based steering wheel shimmy I was experiencing between 50-60mph. Then, I rotated my tires, and the shimmy is back. Checked wheel bearings & and ball joints, both seem to be in working order. Also, there are a TON of weights on my wheels.. just curious if anyone else is having any kind of problems like this.

agree. Definitely seems like a mixed bag with these. The kO2s on the truck were fine but wore poorly but few complaints. I had toyo m/ts on a tundra and other than the issues with a more aggressive tire that are apart of the game- there were smooth and balanced perfectly

i have heard of a lot of issues with nitto. I originally liked the ridge grapplers as they were less aggressive than the km3s I was considering but still had a good look

like I said. They are great on surface roads and sooo smooth. Just wish the highway was just as good

my biggest worry is that I live with it as is (which I can) but then I go to rotate and the problem starts all over again and gets worse (and my options for remedy at that point are limited.

also I appreciate you taking the time to research. Forums like these are so helpful to aggregate information. Thanks

Hey all wanted to pass this by you all to see what you think

i have a 2019 raptor- I recently got a new set of tires - ridge grapplers 315/70/17 installed

i have had slight wheel shimmy and some vibration at highway speed since. I have had them road forced by discount three times now (not counting the original balance when installed- it seems that the first discount was balancing them and then giving them to be out of balance as I would go back and they would have bad run outs

the second discount tire I took it to did another roadforce and surprise- out of balance again.

this balance was a lot better- but im still get slight wheel shimmy and vibrations.

it also seems that there are a TON of weights on the wheels

right front 7oz
Right back 8oz
Left front 7.5oz
left back 6.5oz

the weights are in two spots and stacked. Tires have been rotated on the rim as well. I am using the same rims and had no issues with them before the new tires

does this weight seem reasonable to you?

We are sorry to learn of the troubles you are having with the tires. We would like to help further, PM on the way.

MacanS 01-26-2022 05:15 PM

Well guys back from the most recent road force balance with mixed results. Yet again- all 4 had to have the weight adjusted after a week. Wheel shake is all but gone but the vibration remains unfortunately

I had a ton of weight before - and they have added more now here are the numbers

driver front- 8.5oz
driver rear 11.25oz
left front 6.75
left rear: 8

i also have the road force numbers- front are 11 and 12 and the rears are 22 and 28 which I am told is still in spec

the guy who I was working with was even surprised at the amount of weight for that one wheel and spoke of potentially swapping out the single tire

Discount has been great to work with- but I’m feeling a bit bummed. 4th time now balancing and still getting different results and I now have what I consider a ton of weight on the rims. Now all my rims have the white sticky residue all around from the weights being around that I can’t seem to get off with goo off

attached is a picture of what one of my wheels looks like
