Issues filling with gas.

With the spouse's Fusion experiencing all the same symptoms as the OP's vehicle, the dealer tried piecemealing the issue with three warranty visits. Finally, the dealer just replaced the entire fueling system (except the gas tank) while explaining that the culprit was likely the canister vent valve.

Just a follow up....finally got below 3/4 of a tank today, so I decided to hit a different gas station to see if I had any better luck...still stopping every couple seconds, so I went to my LD and set up an appointment to have the fueling system looked at.

That used to happen to me with a diesel car I had when I went to truck stops. The pumps (apparently) were really FAST and would overcome the system. I used to lock the handle a 3/4 max.
Also, I've experienced this(not as bad) when I bury the nozzle in the fill. Try backing off a notch.
I know, it's just simple stuff I'm suggesting, but you never know.

Roger that. He said blowing out the hose is where they'll start.
LoneWolfTrucker is correct...spiders are the devil.
As for fast pumps and setting to the slowest notch...tried that...even just holding it and running it manually full bore, or 1/4 of the way down, it'll trigger in my hand.
It's definitely a plugged hose or canister issue. Either way, not too worried about it, warranty will take care of it.

Friend had a mustang that did that. Was the carbon can in the fuel system. It was plugged and not letting the tank vent when filling.

Update: Had the truck into the dealer today, they blew out the hose and tried to put some gasoline in and it was still clicking, so they ordered up a canister. Sounds like that should clear the issue.
