Invoice pricing
Ask them for the invoice on a truck. Every single VIN is different. You will see your invoice price on the bottom left next to "HB" and a monetary figure. This is the dealership "Holdback" and is part of their overall vehicle profit. You CAN absolutely negotiate this as part of your "invoice price". If you are a A/Z/D/X plan partner you will see those prices next to the invoice price on the bottom right of the sheet. A = active ford employees Z = retired D = dealership type employees X = partner plan (think michelin, ATT, etc.).
If your truck MSRP is $38k then Invoice will prob be around $36k-36.7k. There will be about another $1500 in holdback on top of that you can "negotiate" from dealer to dealer. Every dealership will work of the same rebates/ private offers for you in your region as it is based off your ZIP. if one dealer discounting a similar truck more than the other is simply dipping into their "Holdback" more than the other. There will be a bottom line they will go. Dont forget to add your "doc fee" if you live in a state that is not capped on this cost, most dealerships will not negotiate this. Hope this helps.

Or use Ford's X-Plan. Barely above invoice, doc fee limited to $100. Plus all rebates. If you can't get X-Plan through organizations you belong to, join the Experimental Aircraft Association, $40, but usually a $10 discount is available. https://www.eaa.org/shop/Membership/Join.aspx

In NC on X-plan (at least at dealership I worked at, we charged no Doc Fee. You have to itemize all additions to the X-plan pricing and document them on the form and have customer sign this. I am not sure if this policy was bespoke to my dealership but we "could not have the price different than what was on invoice or risk being audited". Either way if you can get X-plan, you can usually get a better deal. However I routinely beat the X-plan price for my customers as rebates are usually different on the SmartVincent.

Totally agree and in reality its not wrong for the dealership (a for-profit biz) to make some money. But if you know all the tools available to you, this allows you to negotiate the best possible deal. How good of a negotiator you are with said set of tools is a whole different story.
I'll bet money that you won't make it to the door, 9 times out of 10.
