Intermittent starting issue
Hi all. Happy Holidays!
My question is, my 2018 f150 5.0L has an issue with starting. It will fire up after sitting for hours. But occasionally after I drive it short or long distances and shut it off to run into a business or somewhere for a short time, when I come out and hit the key it does nothing like the battery is dead. So I wait a bit and it will either start up right away or I’ll have to put the jump pack on and it fires right up. I replaced the battery and it was good for two weeks, now doing again. Battery light came on the day I replaced the battery. But never has any other time. I read somewhere else that the 5.0L has some starter issues with parts getting hot and expanding preventing the starter from turning the engine over. But then why would the jump pack make it fire right up? A bolt of juice?
any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Layed off soon and having quadruple bypass so money is tight.

The 2018 had issues with the starters. Classic no start after hot. Only option is replace them. (some try and use heat shields etc, not sure the success story) My guess, after I checked cables, grounds etc, it is the starter. Good luck.
I am/was? having the same issue, and I have heard the same heat soak issues that was to blame. Mine would do the same thing, drive 15 miles, I stop and turn the truck off, come back out, and would either turn over really slow or not at all. Jump pack had the same effect, fired right up. I changed the starter yesterday, and so far so good, so time will tell if this is a good fix
Mine had a starter issue. Same symptoms. Also had issue where at times with the auto start/stop at a red light it would not crank back up on it's own. Changed the battery like you did and that helped a bit, but ultimately it was the starter. Changed it and all my issues were resolved. I have the same year and engine as yours, and it was the 2 bolt version. Had it changed out myself in like 20 minutes. Also don't forget to do the battery management system (BMS) reset after changing the battery. Hope you make a speedy recovery!
